So, one of my favorite parts of story telling is the creation of characters. When I'm playing the Sims, I'll be spending most of my time creating sims in create a sim. I also like to draw, not that I'm good at it, but it's fun. I've recently made a cast or triangle themed characters, with geometric pun names such as "Tri-na" "Tri-der" "Iscosc-izzy" "Equilate-raul" and "Obby". And of course, "Isosc-izzy" is an isosceles triangle. "Equilate-raul" is equilateral, and "Obby" is an obtuse triangle. What I want to know is, how do you guys feel about the development of a character? For me, when I start a story, it begins with the main character. Then I create a plot, and guide the reader through it. Also, feel free to share your latest character design!

Most of my character creation is ad-hoc, I just sort of set a basis and let the character run their way. Very often I create a plot and then a character to fit it. I have a thing about imperfections in the appearance of my Sims, I can't let it happen. In exchange for pretty much being a cast of wholly attractive characters (From my perspective), they also start to look rather the same.

I don't have that problem much, because a characters appearance often indicates their personality, and I dislike mary-sues in most cases.

I'm a sucker for character creation and character design and character development! Both in the Sims and when I write other things - and I like to draw digitally as well In the Sims, I usually have an idea for my character's personality as soon as they're born/I name them. In time, I add more to their characters as they get their traits and live through different things. The cool thing about the Sims is it isn't just what I plan that happens, but sometimes something unexpected comes along - a grandparent dies, a Sim accidentally gets turned into a toad, someone meets a mummy. If it fits in with the story, I like to roll with it. But yeah, it usually starts in CAS with a basic and idea and maybe some backstory that I come up with as I choose traits and looks. tl;dr - I adore character creation it's my favourite thing in the world.

I love character creation, too. Sometimes, I start with a character and build the story around them, but sometimes I have a story and I build the characters to work for that story. Though, they do always take on a world of their own as the story goes.
And anyone that knows me know I spend all of my game time in CAS, haha.

I often play random characters or townies and their actions or even the worlds settings give me ideas on characters or the beginning of a story. For An Enchanted Life it was the Rapunzel's Tower I created that flooded me with idea's, most of them involving an alternate Rapunzel.

In terms of appearance I'm not a huge fan of overly perfect Barbie doll sims, and I think physical imperfections can add quite a lot of character and charm so I try not to fall into my old trap of making all my sims look like gorgeous clones. I've found that since I've broken out of that habit, CAS has been a lot more fun for me.
Recently, I started making sims based off various breeds of birds. It was a really fun little project, and my favourite part was researching the various features of whatever breed I was currently working on. The noses were the best part! In the end my absolute favourite was a woman whose looks I based on those of a Magpie.

I make all of my sims as pretty as possible. They don't all look the same though, which is nice. But they are definitely too pretty barbie sims. I've ruined creativity foreevveerr!

I should really try and dig up the screenshots I took. I know they exist somewhere on my laptop but I moved them around so much I lost track. I swear, my awful tendency to be horribly disorganised will be the end of me one day. I'm sure you haven't ruined your creativity! I still feel that way from time to time, hence why I started the bird project in order to force myself into trying something outside of my comfort zone.

I had a lot of fun making Dobbinsworth, who was based off of Dobby from Harry Potter, obviously. I also made a Winky esque sim. From the book descriptions of course. I'm a Potter Purist.

Well, Dobbinsworth is in the story board, and I'll see about digging up Winky.
