I’ve taken the rules developed by buckeygirl80 (buckeygirl80.blogspot.com) and simplified them.
While it ends in "acy," it is somewhat different from a Legacy. But if people decide this should be in the Legacy section, that's fine.
If you’re bored with the Sims because you’ve figured out how to make them reach the tops of their careers and develop their skills in record time, a wishacy might be the way to go. Ditto, if you really want your Sims to tell their own story.
1. Setting — totally up to you. Use Edit Town whenever you want.
2. Founder — again, your choice. Create a young adult in CAS, pick a townie or bin family, or use the offspring of a couple of townies and age him or her up to YA.
3. Goal — several options.
A. 10 generation legacy
B. Play in every town you have with each new heir
C. Complete every lifetime wish.
4. Gameplay — this is where the rules are.
Basically, what your sims do will be determined by their wishes. They don’t get a job until they pop a wish for a particular career. They don’t marry unless they’ve popped a wish to marry. They don’t have children unless they’ve popped some sort of wish for a child.
You do not have to lock in all of your sim’s wishes, but generally, once a wish has been promised, you should grant it. Exceptions are made for wishes that can’t be granted (i.e., the wish to move in with someone that the sim is already married to and living with), and wishes that you have granted but the game hasn’t recognized. (I don’t know what constitutes meeting a vampire, but it doesn’t always clear for me.) And finally, you can swap out a minor wish for a major one (like dumping the wish to learn a new recipe for the wish to marry X.)
Work
You can always interrupt your sims to send them to work or school. Once at work or school, you can select their activities (i.e. work hard, meet co-workers, etc.). If you’re playing an Ambitions career, you can direct your sim’s actions during working hours. If you’re playing a self-employment career, you can direct your sim to paint, fish, etc. between 9 am and 5 pm, and you can send the sim to the consignment store to consign his or her products.
If your sim pops up the wish for a promotion, you may direct your sim to work on a skill required for the job, even if the sim does not have a wish to work on that particular skill.
Needs
Generally, you will fulfill needs by clicking on the sim’s negative moodlet. If you click on the hungry moodlet, they’ll eat something, ditto for sleeping, bathing, and using the toilet. If your sim is lonely, you can queue up the action to call someone. If your sim is unhappy about the mess, you can direct him or her to clean and wash dishes.
If an appliance is broken, you can either wait for the sim to pop the wish to fix it, or you can replace the appliance. If your sim wants to learn or improve handiness, you can also fix the appliance. If your sim wants to learn cooking, you can fix a meal even if the sim isn’t hungry yet.
Socializing
Whenever there are other sims on the same lot as your sim, you can have your sim make introductions or greet them. Other than that, their social interactions are directed by their wishes. If your sim wants to become friends with x, then you can steer them through the conversation to make that happen. If your sim wants to kiss x (or kiss anyone), you can also supervise to get things to that point. You may use only the romantic interactions "ask if single" and "ask sign" until your sim wishes for a more romantic relationship.
If your sim wishes to meet someone new, or to meet a supernatural, you can send him or her to a community lot where that can happen, or you can use the computer to meet someone online. You can also send sims to community lots when they have the stir-crazy moodlet or have popped the wish to go shopping or to go out.
Trying for Baby and Child Care
If your sim hasn’t popped a wish to have a child yet, but you want an heir, you may choose “try for baby” instead of “woohoo” any time that your sim wants to woohoo with someone that he or she has already woohooed with.
You can always interrupt a sim to take care of a baby or toddler. For teaching toddler skills, however, you need wishes, either the specific wishes, like to teach the toddler how to walk, or the more general wish to see the toddler grow up well.
Furniture and Clothing
The first time your sim moves into a new house, you can furnish it however you want, given your sim’s financial situation. Thereafter, you should wait to buy new furniture until your sim expresses a wish for something new, or until something breaks down. There is some leeway here — if your sim wants to buy something costing $100, you can go ahead and spend as much as you want on as many items you want. You may also buy as many cribs and potty chairs as necessary even if your sim has not wished for them.
You may change your sim’s hair and clothing without the sim wishing for this. I like to dress mine according to the season, but I’ve never had a sim wish for warmer clothing in winter or shorts in summer.
Lifetime Wish
If your sim has no promised wishes, no negative moodlets, and is simply staring out the window, you may direct your sim to work on something related to his or her lifetime wish.
The lifetime wish should be chosen from the choices given when the heir becomes a young adult, or you can pick something that pops up earlier. The only time to use a custom lifetime wish is if all 5 of your options have already been completed.
Traits
If you want to play this over more than one generation, the family-oriented trait is recommended for your founder and heirs, and the “dislikes children” trait is strongly dis-recommended. Going with randomized traits produces interesting outcomes. I use the zodiac as my guide — each infant starts with two randomized traits, and then I assign the rest (if possible) based on the traits that I’ve associated with each zodiac sign.
You do not have to promise every wish your sim has, but you should attempt to promise at least one trait-related wish during the sim’s lifetime.
Other Household Members
You can monitor the wishes of other household members if you like, or you can just see to their needs. What you should not do is micro-manage them to influence your main sim. For example, your sim’s spouse wants to have a baby with your sim, wants a baby, and wants a baby boy, but your sim has not yet fired any of these wishes. You still have to wait for your sim to pop up at least the wish to woohoo.
Age Length and Aging up
I recommend the Long age length for this, with the option to age up infants, toddlers, children, and teens when you feel like it, or when they’ve accomplished pre-determined goals.
I plan to switch over to the heir and move him or her to a new town when the heir is a young adult and the founder or previous heir has completed his or her lifetime wish.
And before I forget, your Free Will setting should be high.
