This is a discussion I frequently end up in with any new Whovian I meet, so I thought I'd extend the discussion into this nifty interweb thingie. My Doctor (as in my first Doctor) was Tom Baker, and I've always had and always will have a soft spot for him. I own long, striped scarves just because he made that look cool. However, I would have to say that David Tenant (number 10) is also a fave. It's really close between those two and Matt Smith (11) is a distant third. Tom's comic wit and the way he changed the perception of the Doctor is rather wonderful. Also, I definitely see his influence in both David and Matt. David has some of my favorite Tom traits, but also brings in a deadly serious demeanor when necessary. David has the benefit of modern technology and stronger supporting actors/actresses. At the end of the day, I'd say it's a bit of a toss up given my mood at that moment between Tom and David, but I probably land on the David side of that toss up just a bit more often.

Tom. Every single time. As with you, Mr Baker was my first and subsequently stole my Doctor Who virginity away from me~ Although I did enjoy Matt Smith's version he really wore on me after a while and at times felt a little too gimmicky. I'm really looking forward to the new doctor though, he's one of my favourite actors.
Also have you seen this?

Oh, I have a soft spot for the Fourth Doctor as well - it's just generally hard to beat the combo of Baker and Sladen, they're my favourites. I'm also quite fond of the Third as well, and Ten was my first Doctor, so he holds a special place in my heart, of course. Generally, I'm just fond of all of them. It's probably easier to say that the ones I've connected least with are Five and Eight. They're still great in their own way, just not the ones I love the most.

My first Doctor was actually Nine, as I had been wanting to watch Doctor Who for a long time, but never had the means or time to sit down and do so until I received the first couple series of the reboot as a birthday present. So I started with Rose and was hooked. Then Ten came along and I fell in love. I was in a weird place at the time and Tennant's lovely portrayal really helped get me through it. So despite having seen Nine first, Ten will always be MY Doctor.
I'm starting to watch the older stuff finally (thanks to Netflix!) and am really enjoying it. Cheesy effects and all! I'm excited to get to Four, as he seems to be one of the more popular and well loved Doctors. Plus Elizabeth Sladen is amazing so I can't wait to see her in her original run! I can't really say that any of these Doctors are better than one another though, as they all bring their own unique flavors to the role and I adore the diversity. I just recently warmed up to Matt Smith's Eleven and I can't wait to see what Capaldi does with the role.
Who would you guys say is/are your favorite Companion(s)? So far, I'm head over heels with Clara Oswin and I really hope they allow her to act a little more like her first two incarnations though. Personally, I feel that once she joined the show full-time, they sort of forgot what type of character she is and focused on her less as a person and more as a walking mystery.

Elisabeth Sladen was so amazing as Sarah Jane Smith - she's my all time favourite companion, both in the old and new run She's who got me into the old show - after I'd watched the Sarah Jane Adventures, I just had to have more of her so I started with her old episodes. But oh, I love so many of the companions. Harry Sullivan who travelled with Four for a while as well is just a cutie, and there's Romana (especially her first incarnation), Ace, and from the new run my favourite is definitely Donna Catherine Tate is fab.

I've only seen Matt, and one episode of David, it's embarrassing, so I am not qualified enough to choose a favorite. But I love Oswin. And you can't deny Rory's amazing. I'm still not sure what to think of Amy.

Favorite companion, hmm? Well, I've always been fond of Leela. She was interesting as this savage sort of character that was learning to be civilized from the Doctor. Kind of a "My Fair Lady" aspect. Also, her interactions with K-9 were always lovely. Ace was also rather enjoyable. Particularly the, "You don't have any explosives on you again, do you Ace?" "Of course not." "Good, go blow that thing up," sort of interactions they would have. From newWho, I have to go with Rose. Donna's hilarious, and I greatly enjoyed Pond, but I think the dynamic between 10 and Rose was rather incredible. Not sure I entirely answered the question, but I'm going to leave it at that.

My favourite doctor has to be Tom Baker. I instantly warmed to him in 'Robot' with his comedic madness and such, and he made such a great pairing with Sarah Jane, My favourite companion. I'd also like to say Matt Smith is my second choice, though he is rather mad he can pull of as being serious whenever it is necessary. Also (Controversial Opinion), I hate Rose, I hate her with a passion!

Really? You hate Rose? That rather caught me off guard. Agreed, though, the pairing of 4 and Sarah Jane was brilliantly fantastic!! I also enjoyed his interactions with Leela.
